Are there any solutions I can make at home to clean "high traffic" carpet areas?

I need to clean a certain area in my home that gets a lot of traffic and I was wondering if there were any cleaning products or home concoctions I could make to at less minimize the dirt --- if not if someone could please recommend a product that REALLY works! Thanks in advance
