Question about Amy and the wasps in the movie "The Crush" with Alicia Silverstone. ?

So I'm watching The Crush (Alicia Silverstone, 1993) and I'm stuck on this part in the movie: Adrian (Alicia) decides to lock Amy in her film developing shed and fill the room with wasps/yellow jackets through the vent. The vent is on due to the strong chemicals used for the development process. Okay, I get the plan. Ouch!! But then Amy throws a gl jar through the blacked-out window and the next shot shows all the fake wasps hitting the ground and she's safe. What?? WHY?? What am I missing? It's not like wasps are allergic to sunlight or fresh air, lol. Is this just a horrible fix in a poorly written script or am I missing something real?? Thanks you guys!!
