Why does HSV produce "blisters"? Why not a macule, a wheal, or something else?

HSV's pathophysiology involves cell necrosis in addition to extensive inflammatory changes ociated with this process & leads to the aculation of fluid between the dermal and epidermal layers, thus producing vesicles as opposed to the other sorts of lesions.
